Text Poster

Creating a poster is not very difficult. I will be using some advanced techniques to make one. You will learn many new tips and tricks in the course of this tutorial which you will not normally find elsewhere. You will learn manipulation of text and Blend Modes, but not in the way they are normally used.

3D Rivet Text in Photoshop

You can create the illusion of movement with a Displacement map in Photoshop. This can be done in any version.

Sharpening images with Surface Blur

An easy way to sharpen an image is to use the High Pass filter in Photohshop. A better method is to use Surface Blur, though it sounds contradictory for sharpening.

Removing Text from an image can be done with the Brush Tool in Photoshop. There is a little trick to it which I will show you.

Text as Shape

You can paste Text into a shape of your choosing so that the Text fits into its contours. It can be done in any version of Photoshop.

Desaturating Skin

Sometimes skin tones may not be to your liking -- it may be harsh, too bright or too dark. This is a trick which willl affect only the skin, while leaving the rest of the image undisturbed. Yet you need not use Masks or make complicated Selections.

Textures - What you can do with them

Photoshop contains only a few Textures built in. Thankfully, good quality Textures are available for free on the internet. Textures together with Blend Modes and layer Masks can be used to create special effects.

Crumpled and Torn Paper Effect

A crumpled and torn paper effect is possible with free Textures in Photoshop. It is not difficult to do.

Fake HDR effect

HDR is achieved by shooting a number of images of a subject in the same position, with some underexposed and some overexposed. They are then merged in Photoshop. That is real HDR. The effect can be faked in Photoshop with a  single image.
